Public and Products Liability Insurance
Public and Products Liability insurance covers your legal liability if your business activities, premises or products cause personal injury or property damage to a third party. It is the foundation liability cover for most businesses.
Do I need Public and Products Liability insurance?
If customers, suppliers or the public interact with your business, your premises or your products, you need liability cover. Many leases, sites and contracts require proof of it before you can work.
What does it cover?
- Personal injury to third parties arising from your business activities
- Damage to third party property
- Liability arising from products you sell, supply or repair
- Legal defence costs
Important tips
- Site and contract requirements commonly start at 10 or 20 million dollars. Check before you commit.
- Keep records of incidents even when no claim seems likely.
- If you import products, you may be treated as the manufacturer under Australian law. Make sure your policy reflects that.
